Instrument Cable

The multi-purpose sound conductor for transmission of unbalanced signals. Whether live on stage or in the recording studio, this is the perfect cable for all electrically amplified musical instruments such as electrical guitar, bass, E-piano or keyboards. Also great for acoustic instruments with pickup systems.

      • single solid core conductors for signal and ground
      • silver-plated, oxygen-free copper conductors
      • pigment and plasticizer-free high purity polymers
      • shielded
      • optimally protected against microphonics

Made in Switzerland

VOVOX® sound conductors are hand-assembled in Switzerland. The cables, including the solder, are lead-free.

Connectors for VOVOX® link protect A

Our pronounced goal is the perfect transmission of sound signals. To achieve this aim, the cable, but also the connectors, must fulfil our requirements. Since most phone plugs available on the market are designed with only their mechanical properties in mind, we use our own VOVOX® phone plugs:  A ¼" phone plug offering both first class functionality and first class sound.

    • Optimized signal contact made of copper
    • Robust housing made of fiber-reinforced engineering-plastic
    • Optimal bend-protection
    • Efficient strain-relief
    • Lead-free soldering

Straight or angled ¼" phone plugs?

Especially in the case of instrument cables, we suggest carefully choosing the kind of connector that suits you best: Using a 90° right angle plug will often reduce the mechanical stress on the instrument as well as on the cable. Like this it contributes to longer service life of both, cable and jack. For acoustic guitars, angled plugs are usually the better choice.

High-grade conductor material

The selection of the right conductor material is crucial for the sound. The basis of VOVOX® link sound conductors is silver-plated solid-core conductors made from oxygen-free high purity SPOFHC copper. Because silver has an even better conductivity than copper, the current density is additionally enhanced in the important surface boundary.

Very low capacitance

It is impossible to judge the quality of an instrument cable just based on its capacitance. Nevertheless, to have a low capacitance is a precondition for a cable to transmit the whole frequency range. VOVOX® link protect A has a very low capacitance of only 90 pF/m.

Ultra-pure polymers

VOVOX® link sound conductors are covered with two layers of high-tech polymer. Although plastics are not directly involved in the signal transmission, they do have an effect on the sound quality. VOVOX doesn't use any PVC. Only ultra-pure plastics without plasticizers are used. Even the use of colour pigments is avoided.

Additional conductor for ground

The conductors within a cable must fulfil several functions. The shield has the main function of protecting the signal conductor from interference. In most cables, the shield is also used as the return signal conductor. VOVOX® consequently separates these functions. This may be a more complex construction, yet it results clearly in better sound quality.

Optimal protection from microphonic noise

When a guitar cable is moved or stepped on, small electrical signals are created due to the change of the capacitance or due to electrostatic charges. This effect is called microphonic. It creates a disturbing crackling noise. Usually this phenomenon is avoided with the help of conductive plastics. Howevery, like this also sound quality is negatively affected. We have found our own technique to solve the problem of microphonic noise using natural materials - without compromizing sound quality.

Melvin Lee Davis (Lee Ritneour, The Pointer Sisters; Bryan Ferry) and Jesse Milliner, on tour in Switzerland with Chaka Khan, meet us at the VOVOX workshop.

In this video, we meet with Guitarist/producer/composer Dave Wood and we talk about why he uses VOVOX cables.

(Video produced by Audio Plus Services)

In this video, we meet with keyboarder / composer / arranger Jesse Milliner (Chaka Khan, Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton, Trilok Gurtu and many more) and we talk about why he uses VOVOX cables.

The sound samples were recorded for us by Hank Shizzoe. We purposely used a very simple set-up with only few components. The different takes were recorded separately, therefore there are small variations in the audio material. The sound character nevertheless becomes apparent.
